Caxton Hall, Westminster SW1.

We carried out the cleaning of this grade 2 red brick building (formerly Westminster Town Hall) and cut out and replaced much of the previously water damaged brick and stonework. Many of the red sandstone profiles were also invisibly restored and where required, replaced with reconstituted stone units.

The design brief for this contract was essentially to replace or restore all of the buildings original stone and brick profiles to their original sharpness, but not to leave the building looking as though it had recently been touched, therefore a non abrasive cleaning technique was adopted which removed all of the dirt but none of the patina which gave the building its character. Also the dark carbon staining on most of the sky facing surfaces was retained.
